Base Scriptures: Matthew 27:50-56; Acts 1:3
For purpose of this study, we turn to events surrounding Calvary to see:
Risk management is an ongoing process of identifying risks (the possibility of suffering harm or loss; unwanted negative consequences of an undesirable event by nature or people) and the implementation of a plan to address them (mitigate) by a company.
Risk mitigation includes counter measures or action to reduce natural or human threats to a company’s assets. Assets are people and things of value to the company. People assets are persons in the company with unique knowledge, skills, abilities, and experience which are difficult to replace. Threats refers to a natural occurrence which could cause an undesirable outcome (fire, weather, terrorist attack) or human in which a person commits an undesirable act deliberately or accidentally. The outcome of the threat can be disclosure, modification, loss/destruction, or interruption to a company’s operations and assets. Since risk management is an ongoing process, the increasing number of sexual harassment and misconduct claims against business executives, managers, leaders, and employees are clear indications that corporate, church, and government ethics and standards of conduct must be reformed and made part of the governance process. According to Ethics & Compliance Initiative at ethics.org, major business ethics and compliance issues go back to the 1960s. It was then, the 1960s, companies began to establish codes of conduct. However, creation of a code of ethics for government service was not established until 1980 and some companies established ethics officers and ombudsman. Here we are in 2019 with major misconduct issues in business, church, and government. According to Laurie Hays, managing director for special situations at Edelman, in a memo from January 2019, more than 400 business executives and employees (including prominent CEOs) have been accused on misconduct, including sexual harassment in the last 18 months. Some were made known by the media, but some companies have discovered misconduct and taken appropriate action without media notification. For instance, INTEL’s CEO, Brian Krzanich resigned after an investigation into his relationship with and employee determined he violated INTE’s code of conduct (non-fraternization policy which applies to managers). Steve Wynn, CEO of Wynn Resorts, resigned in February 2018 over allegations of sexual misconduct. The Chief Executive Officer, Commissioner, Director or whatever title is given to the head of a company is the person who owns and directs the culture. Clearly it is time for the Board of Directors or other governing body to become more proactive in oversight of a company’s culture and code of ethics. Just as there are policies, best practices, guidance, and standards for information security and physical security, a clear set should be incorporated in Human Resource handbook. Include ethics and conduct when providing training and audit of finances, cybersecurity, and operations. Additionally, make the companies code of ethics and conduct mission critical and link it to executive’s compensation and performance. Now the risk and threat have greater weight. Damaging news, tweets, and social media posts relating to sexual misconduct, unethical behavior, and disregard for diversity impacts a company’s reputation, profits, and can tie the board of directors and other management in lengthy court cases. Now is the time for corporations, organizations, government, and the church to re-evaluate risk management processes, reform their code of ethics and conduct, and implement a more proactive governing board. Social movements of the day are not going away BUT increasing. Including ethics and conduct in risk management and the governance process makes good business sense. The King’s followers are always looking for elevation, recognition, and praise from their leader. It’s not so much that they agree with the King but what they can get from him.
Notice certain Chaldeans who were looking for opportunity to remove the Jews from their places of authority. The Chaldeans were natives and the Hebrew boys are new comers (outsiders). They were born there, knew the history, how things worked, and now the king has elevated these upstarts. They were jealous, envious, and covetous of the Hebrew boys. So, they sought for an opportunity to accuse the Jews, God’s chosen people. Revelation 12: 10b "... for the accuser of our brethren, who accused them before our God day and night, has been cast down." Satan is the accuser of the brethren. Their feet were swift to mischief. They were quick to tell. Notice they did not tell one of the other leaders. They interrupted the king’s service to point fingers. Can I tell you something? There’s always someone watching you! Their reason for watching is NOT to build up but to tear down. This is a service by people who do not believe in the living God. They serve many gods. If they interrupt their own service, how much more will they interrupt praise and worship unto the Lord Jesus Christ? Beloved, do not believe every spirit but test the spirits, whether they be of God. We are debtors – not to the flesh, to live according to the flesh. “But you are not in the flesh but in the Spirit. If indeed the Spirit of God dwells in you. Now if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, he is not His” (Romans 8:9 NKJV). The Chaldeans flamed the simmering flame of arrogance and pride to ignite the king to wrath and bring judgment upon the Hebrew boys. Their actions and traits do not align with a righteous and Holy God. However, I urge you as believers in Christ not to be discouraged. The enemy did not win. The Hebrew boys stood on the Word of God. They did not compromise. The Lord showed up and delivered them from the flaming fire of their enemies. Jesus is the same yesterday, today, and forever. No matter what fiery darts of the enemy you may experience, know the Lord will deliver you out of them all. Rejoice! Have Faith in God! ![]() As I watch the evening news or read the newspaper I can’t help but notice the growing controversy and contention around the globe. Even when I assess social media there is controversy and contention about something. No matter what situation I believe I can safely categorize all under the quest for F.I.L.E (Freedom, Independence, Liberty, Equality). Who, what, where and how FILE looks like is creating much of the contention. Whether its people fleeing injustices from tyranny, terrorist, or criminals; nations desiring independence from another, LGBTs seeking equality, or impoverished people desiring liberty to pursue a better way of life – all want FILE. They want FILE now regardless of what the social or economic impact it will have on a nation. However, what some may not realize is, FILE always comes at a cost. FILE is costly. Someone will pay. Someone will pay financially, with their lives or both. The history of mankind includes cycles of people fighting, dying, and expending resources in pursuit of FILE. Since human life is priceless, no one has been able to accurately determine the cost of FILE. All historians are anyone can say is FILE is priceless. On July 4th across the United States of America we will celebrate our independence. An independence which gave freedom, liberty, and eventually equality to Americans. The USA’s FILE came at a very high price, which I think many now take for granted. However, it is my hearts desire that citizens of the USA will remember that our FILE has come with a great price. Therefore, rather than allowing bigotry, hate, racism, wealth (or lack thereof), or politics separate us, we should unite as one people under God. The God who gave His only begotten Son Jesus Christ that whosoever believes on HIM shall be saved. Over 2000 years ago, JESUS gave HIS life to redeem mankind (REDEMPTION). REDEMPTION like FILE are priceless. However, FILE cannot provide REDEMPTION, but REDEMPTION does gives FILE to whoever receives Jesus and His finished work of the cross. The FILE given through REDEMPTION can never be matched by the world. It is pure, holy, joyful, loving, kind, merciful, abundant, priceless and not from the world. It is consistent and doesn’t change with every new government or trend in society. It is the same yesterday, today, and forever. The author and finisher of our FILE is the Redeemer Himself, the Lord Jesus Christ. |
