Base Scriptures: Matthew 27:50-56; Acts 1:3 For purpose of this study, we turn to events surrounding Calvary to see:
God is all powerful – everything moves by the power of God (sun, earth, rocks, people, temple veil split); nothing too difficult for him; accomplishes all things. Jeremiah 32:17
God is sovereign – (in control) how, when, what, where, and who is in HIS hand; timeliness of events. Psalm 103:19; Revelation 21:6; Matthew 27:45-46, 50-52
God is all knowing – even in the grave God can differentiate between His own and the wicked. Romans 11:33; Matthew 27:52 and 53
God has given Jesus - all power in heaven and in earth (Matthew 28:18). He is the Word that created all things and holds them together. Colossians 1:16
God has given us - infallible proof of Jesus as resurrected Savior (see handout)
For forty (40) days after his death and burial Jesus appearances to his disciples gave them comfort, hope, and assurance that:
He lives again
For 40 days after Jesus resurrection HE was seen at least eight (8) times prior to His final ascension. After His ascension there were at least four (4) more accounts of people encountering the risen Savior - (See your handout).
He is the Son of God
Jesus resurrection is more evidence that he is the Son of God – John 20:31, Luke 1:35; Romans 1:3&4.
God is sovereign
Jesus resurrection is evidence that physical death is not termination of our existence. God gives life and has power to revive the human body - 1 Corinthians 15:20-23; Acts 26:23; Revelation 1:18.
He is victorious
Jesus resurrection is evidence of HIS victory over the enemy – Colossians 2:15; Revelation 1:18
The resurrection of Jesus of Nazareth from the dead is foundational to our walk as Christians. The non-existence of a resurrected Christ would make our faith a hoax – 1 Corinthians 15:14.
